How To Detoxify Your Brain

In the brain, a system called the glymphatic system functions to help the brain detoxify. To my knowledge, this system engages during moments of deep sleep. Without good sleep habits and consistently getting yourself into a deep sleep, toxins can build up in the brain and this may result in higher levels of cortisol, stress and, potentially, cognitive decline.
Some of the most common covid symptoms include sleep disturbances, cognitive issues and combined with an impacted endocrine system, weight gain.
We all agree on the immportance of deep sleep. Here are 5 suggestions from my friends at BrainTap to help you and your practice members:
Stick to a consistent sleep schedule. Deep sleep is most likely to occur between 10PM and 2AM. A huge help to me was acquiring an OURA ring which provides metrics on sleep and sleep quality.
Make sure your sleep environment is conducive meaning cool, dark, comfortable and free of distractions.
We all know to withdraw from screen time at least an hour before bedtime and to not keep electronics near your head. Personally, I also think its helpful to shut down wifi at night.
Obviously, avoid stimulants…especially in the evening.
Adopt a relaxation ritual. As I’ve mentioned bfore, I review at least 10 things I am grateful and thankful for in my life. Other approaches include deep breathing and guided meditation. Or, follow my wife’s lead-she uses BrainTap’s headset/app to help her relax into a deep, more restful sleep.
